Featured Image and Blog Set-up Video Transcript:
Okay so in this video I’m going to show you how to add your featured image and really wrap things up with your blog. Alright, let’s check it out.
Alright! So now we are pretty much wrapping up our blog post and there’s just a few last things to do. You just want to double check your content for spelling and errors, that everything is the way you want it to be, your headers, your links, everything is bolded, all that good stuff. You also have your categories and tags set-up, your title, and the last thing you’ll want to do, oh yeah obviously we added some pictures and videos so it really looks great. But the last thing you’ll want to do is you’ll want to set your featured image.
Your featured image is going to be the image that is going to be on your WordPress blog post or on your website that’s going to really attract people to want to read this blog post. So make sure it’s a good image. So you want to set this image and you’ll want to click on that. And you’ll want to UPLOAD FILE. Click SELECT FILES. I had already created a little banner, so I’m going to select this one. And this is my 99 Designs review banner. So I’m just going to give it a quick title. I’m going to click SET FEATURED IMAGE Once it’s there it’s going to show up on your little corner and you’re all set! You’re going to click PUBLISH and we’re going to see what it looks like on our blog page. Okay so now that we have this great looking blog and you’ll want to, let’s say you say “I don’t want all of my content to be published on my first page. I just want these little excerpts or snip bits with my featured image. I’m going to show you how to do that. So in order to do that, you’ll want to go back inside your dashboard.
You’ll want to go to ‘Appearance’ and click on WIDGETS. Now when you go to your widgets it’s going to give you a couple of options here. You’re going to have ‘Home-Top’, ‘Home-Middle’, or ‘Home-Bottom’. In this case you’ll want to open the ‘Home-Top’. And you’ll want to slide in here this thing called ‘Genesis – Featured Posts’. So go ahead and bring that into this profile and it’s going to give you a couple of options here. Say if you want all of your blog posts to show up just leave it as ‘All Categories’. How many posts do you want to show? I’m going to say 7. And ‘Number of Post to Offset’ I’m going to leave it order by Date, by Descending so that means that’s going to be the newest on the top and I’m also going to show the featured image so I want to click on this box. You can change the image thumbnail size. In this case I’m going to leave that 150 by 150. My image alignment I want it to be to my left. I’m going to show the post title. And maybe I want to show a little excerpt so I’m going to go “Show Excerpt’. It will click ‘Read More’ once I do that.
Now once I do that I just want to click SAVE. Now I’m going to go to MarketingAcessPass.info and take a look at what it looks like. Well Beautiful! So now you see, you have your set featured image here. You have your content right here. And if they want to read more they could. So here’s a couple of things I want to change up. I want to make sure that I have my name right here, maybe have the date when it was created. It looks like my image is kind of cropped up so I’m going to expand this. So let’s go ahead and go back to the dashboard and make some little revisions to make it better. So we’re going to go back. I want to change my image size to let see…how about 360 by 200, that’s a good size. I also want to change and have and show my post info. So I’m going to go ahead and click on that. It’s going to give me my date, my author name, and I’m going to change this to my content limit. Let’s say I only want to have a hundred characters and then I do want to my “Read More Texts” to be right there.
I want to go ahead and SAVE that and see what the new changes look like.Okay! That looks a lot better actually. So my image is really big. I got you know it’s by whoever the author is an its essentially my admin name right now. People can leave a comment and they can essentially click on this if they want to read more or this button right here. So if they want to read more about this article they just click the ‘Read More…’ button and there you go. It goes into a blog post. Okay! I’m just going spend some time, add some more blog posts, and really jazz up this website. I’ll see you guys in the next video.
